A Utah Elopement Nestled in The Pines

bride and groom explore utah's cottonwood canyons

From the very beginning, Skye and Frost knew they didn’t want a wedding, but a small outdoor elopement. They wanted to spend their Utah elopement day surrounded by mountains and tall pine trees, so they could tap into their Lord of the Rings vibes. Skye also chose to wear a flowy, whimsical, fairy-like dress with long cape like sleeves, inspired by the movie.

Most of all, Skye and Frost wanted the energy of their Utah elopement day to feel true to them. Laid-back, fun, and light hearted. They love to camp, so they rented a group campsite in Big Cottonwood Canyon where their closest family and friends joined them for an evening around the campfire playing yard games, dancing, and making s’mores.

Skye and Frost weaved little details of themselves into every aspect of their day. These two met at Jimmy Johns, so they had little sandwiches catered to enjoy at the campsite. And while ditching almost all wedding traditions, they did want to cut a cake. They included little cat figures on their cake, so their cats could be there with them in spirit.

Campgrounds for a Laid-back Utah Elopement Day

A campsite is a great place to spend the evening of your Utah elopement day if you are still wanting to celebrate with your loved ones. Very affordable too! Skye and Frost’s Utah Elopement was held at one of Jordan Pines Campground group campsites. It’s surrounded by pine trees, and large enough to fit 10-15 cars.

Jordan Pines only has a few group campsites, but Tanners Flat Campground and Spruces Campground are other good options in the Cottonwood Canyons that have group campsites. Group site #9 at Spruces Campground even has a log cabin style pavilion pictured below!

I am very familiar with the Cottonwood Canyons and would love to point you in the right direction when planning your mountain elopement day in Utah! You can have a day-of hiking adventure to an alpine lake or a private ceremony nestled in the trees before your laidback camp-style evening! Reach out to me here to chat more!

Your Elopement Photographer

Okay but who am I and why do I think mountain elopements are the best?!

Hii I’m Bri! I’m a Salt Lake City local, mountain enthusiast, and adventure seeker! And most importantly obsessed with dogs and love stories (: While I love being home with my dog and our routine, I also love traveling and having new experiences!

I am also an adventure elopement photographer, and mountain weddings and elopements are my bread and butter… or peanut butter and jelly in my brain lol (;

Anyways, let’s continue on with ideas for your Utah elopement day, but it’s good to virtually meet you (: If you’re planning an elopement day, I would love to connect with you and hear more about your vision!

For A More Adventurous Mountain Elopement Day…

However, if Jordan Pines is booked up or you are looking for a more adventurous elopement day, check out Provo Canyon. About 1.5 hours south of Salt Lake City you will find ziplining, river rafting, hiking, and more!

Provo Canyon Adventures: Your group gets to ride up the mountain a bit in their truck trailer, and then you get to ride down 3 different ziplines. Soaring above the trees and taking in gorgeous views of Provo canyon throughout the ride! Their website is currently under construction, so call them directly to inquire about zipline adventures: (801) 960-3101.

If water is more of your speed, High Country Adventures offers tubing, rafting, and kayaking adventures on the Provo river in the summer!

Then, after your adventurous day, there are a few ways we can spend the evening! We can head out for a sunset ceremony in the mountains, a fancy dinner reception at Sundance/ a nearby Airbnb. Or we can have a laid back evening at South Fork Park (pictured below).
